Denali Earth Location, Pirate Lake,
Denali National Park
Location: Denali Earth is located on Pirate Lake in Denali National Park. You will find Pirate Lake on the Talkeetna C-1 Topographic map available through the USGS Store. Coordinates are: 62-39.168 N, 150-20.082 W. (On the map to the right, the blue arrow is pointing to the Ruth Glacier. Follow Ruth Glacier down to bottom corner of National Park Boundary. Denali Earth is just below the toe of the Ruth Glacier. Map below is an enlarged picture of PIrate Lake in bottom right inside red shaded line).
Summer - Access is via float planes for hire from Talkeetna. If coming from Anchorage, contact Denali Overland Transportation Company, 907-733-2385, for airport pick up and drop off to Talkeetna, and contact us for float plane reservations. Access can also be via jet boat from mile 133-134 off the Parks Highway, one hour drive north of Talkeetna. Contact us for jet boat reservations and availability.
Winter - The winter trail-head is located on mile 131 off the Parks Highway. This road is on the south side of Denali mountain range. Winter travel can be by snow machine, dogsled, or ski. The trail is about 12 miles. You are welcome to bring your own dog sled team, or hire a musher. Depending on snow conditions and weather on the lake, you can also fly from Talkeetna to Denali Earth and land on the snow. Contact us for more information.
Spring and Fall - Due to freeze-up from mid-September through November, and the ice break-up from mid-April through May, there is no access to Denali Earth during this time. Please call us for current ice conditions.
